The taxation structure of the Gulf Countries(GCC) is seeing a transition phase and the latest addition to this is the launch of the VAT in UAE and Saudi Arabia and will soon be implemented in other member states.
In UAE the VAT came into effect from the 1st January 2018 and this has been imposed to maintain the revenue collection from the Oil. When being creat the VAT its most of the benefits of the government but some VAT complaint UAE have to increase but it must be noted that in the recent times, the revenue from the OIl has seen a dip and hence lead to loss of revenue.
So, in order to maintain the revenue of the Government, the VAT taxation structure has been launched. This is the newest form of tax that has been implemented in UAE. Though the government has left no stone unturned to maintain the credibility some complaints had emerged in the past from the consumers regarding the VAT system.

Minister of Economy – Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri Statement
Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy, has said that the complains related to the VAT are declining with each passing day. The minister at the meeting of the Higher Committee of Consumer Protection put forward the data in this context and further said that calls from consumers are now 493, which was earlier 3,261 on the launch day of the VAT. The decline complaint report has been placed after the two weeks of VAT rollout in UAE.
In comments published by state news agency WAM on Saturday, he said, “The committee received growing calls from the consumers during the first days of the VAT application. People had some concerns, but their worries have ebbed with the passage of time”.
Khalid Ali Al Bustani, director general of the Federal Tax Authority Statement
The director general of the Federal Tax Authority, Khalid Ali Al Bustani, has also said the major concerns are related to the three segments – price hikes, tax registration numbers and erroneous calculation of VAT on some commodities.
Al Bustani said, “Traders and departments against whom the complaints were filed have been notified and were given a grace period to rectify their strategies as per the tax rules and condition”.

“The committee is in the constant follow-up of the market to prevent any violations and in case of any non-abidance, all legal measures have been taken against the violators,” Mohammed Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz Al Shehhi, Undersecretary for Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Economy, added.
VAT Complaints On The Launch Day
Earlier, on the 1st January, i.e. on the launch day of the VAT in UAE, as much s 71 complaints were received by the concerned department. Taking action on the pretext of these complains nine commercial establishments were booked for the unjustified price hike.
It must be noted that the Department of Economic Development (DED) of Dubai is monitoring the VAT related complaints regarding the business establishments in the country. In UAE the VST slab has been put at the fixed rate of 5 percent and many of the basic consumer goods are out of this taxation structure. The VAT law has clearly stated that no one can put a tax of more than 5 percent on any of the goods being sold in UAE.
